New album from The Bank Holidays out today
Posted: Jul 16 2010

The Bank Holidays are pleased to release their much anticipated sophomore album Sail Becomes A Kite on Lost and Lonesome Recording Co.

Regarded as “pop perfection” (Drum Media Perth), the album has already earned glowing reviews and radio airplay across the country, including rotation on triple j, FBi Radio (Sydney), SYN FM (Melbourne), and feature album status on RTR FM (Perth).

Hailing from Perth, The Bank Holidays recorded Sail Becomes A Kite with Martin Roth at ABC Studios Perth, and Steve Bond (The Panics, Snowman) at Cazfair House.

Sail Becomes A Kite is a surprising left turn for The Bank Holidays, whose previous output has been exemplified by a giddy joyousness. A reflective second album, the band opts for autumnal hues in place of its usual summery sparkle. Still present however, among the moodier, more filmic atmosphere is the band’s indisputable grasp of melody and compelling song-writing.

Over the years The Bank Holidays have shown their wares playing shows with Peter Bjorn & John, Caribou, Belle & Sebastian, Sarah Blasko, Machine Translations and The Lucksmiths; have toured Germany, Scandinavia and the UK; and took out the 2007 WAMi Award for ’Best Indie Pop Group’.

Sail Becomes A Kite is the sound of The Bank Holidays at their tender best.

“... brimming with sincerity and melodic hooks to die for”.
- Shaun Prescott, Mess + Noise

“Thereabouts is the first single from Sail Becomes A Kite and it’s a lush, cleverly crafted ball of beauty”.
- Simone Ubaldi, Beat Magazine

“[The Bank Holidays] share the kind of penchant for great pop songs succinctly executed that the likes of The Shins or compatriots The Go Betweens so perfectly encapsulate”.
 – Tangents (UK)

“The Bank Holidays are such a warm and resilient pop band that even their melancholy-tinged second album boasts a heartening glow”.
- Doug Wallen, Mess Noise
