Emerging from a life-affirming, but sometimes perilous lope through the US, Darren Hanlon is back with a charming and kaleidoscopic fifth studio album. He now sets out on a national headline tour to celebrate his most resplendent musical effort yet, “Where Did You Come From?”

Kicking off at the Nannup Festival at the end of February, the tour will see Darren criss-cross the country during March and April playing festivals and regional venues in between every major city.

It’s been almost five years since Darren’s last full-length album and “Where Did You Come From?” reaches new levels of maturity for the ambitious songster, without ever losing his trademark lyrical charm and twinkling eye. With the project conceived in the isolated town of Broken Hill and from there spanning two continents, numerous cities, towns, and recording studios within America’s southern states, the album is a vibrant testament to the joys of travelling and the dazzling mysteries of fate.

The first single ‘When You Go’ is gaining traction all over, with a positive response from critics and fans after dropping late last year. The video, shot at Sou’wester Lodge, Washington State captures the daily hustle of the rustic hotel and trailer park with Darren in character as an employee, working amongst the local vagabonds and colourful characters.

PRAISE FOR DARREN HANLON

“With enough wry charm and vivid detail to withstand such comparisons, Hanlon’s unassuming brand of indie-pop digs up the mundane or eccentric and scrapes off the dirt until he hits on something universal.”
Pitchfork

“Darren Hanlon understands that the difference between simple and simple-headed is, quite literally, wit…the longtime Australian musician has a knack for quirky tunefulness, good-naturedly ambitious rhymes and tingly everyday details, shared over shopworn guitars and embellished with piano, violin or the occasional toy instrument.”
Pitchfork

“He may be distinctly inner-west, he may be distinctly Gympie, he may be distinctly Australian, but what makes Darren Hanlon such an amazing songwriter is that his songs are so distinctly universal.”
Mess + Noise

“Beneath the soft plucking of a solitary acoustic guitar is a storyteller who’s more in touch with this country than most of our politicians combined. Country guy does good, Darren for PM?”
Rob Steel, 4ZZZ

“Lovely, sad and funny all at once”
Mess and Noise

“All his usual mix of whimsy and melancholy seems intact, to make a certain generation of indie girls want to take him home for pikelets, a cup of tea, and a cuddle on the lounge as they watch an old John Hughes film together.”
